Why We’re Committed to Achieving Net Zero by 2030

At GW Power, our business is built around helping others harness renewable energy – but we know we have to walk the walk ourselves. That’s why we’re fully committed to reaching Net Zero emissions by 2030.

It’s Not Just About Business, It’s About Responsibility

The climate crisis is the defining challenge of our time. As a commercial engineering company that designs and installs renewable energy systems across the UK, we see firsthand how important clean energy is for the future. We believe we have a responsibility to lead by example – showing that achieving Net Zero isn’t just possible, it’s essential.

It’s not only the right thing to do for the planet, but also for our clients and the local community we’re proud to be part of here in Hull and Yorkshire. We want to protect what makes this region special for generations to come.

We also want to be a trusted partner that clients know shares their values. More and more organisations are demanding real climate action from their supply chain – and rightly so. By cutting our own emissions, we’re proving that we take sustainability as seriously as we expect our clients to.

The Steps We’re Taking

We’re already making strong progress. Since establishing our baseline in 2021/22, we’ve:

  • Installed LED and PIR lighting controls across our offices.
  • Transitioned most of our fleet to electric vehicles.
  • Offset fuel emissions by planting trees.
  • Added solar PV to our buildings, generating clean electricity and reducing our reliance on the grid.
  • Put workplace measures in place to cut down on waste.

These initiatives have already delivered a 4.92% reduction in our emissions, saving around 2,414 kg CO2 each year. Our electricity is now 63% powered by solar, and we’re exporting additional clean energy, cutting a total of 2,414 kg CO2 annually.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to be moving into a retrofit Net Zero office in October 2025, which will help slash our footprint even further. By 2030, we’re targeting a 48.6% reduction to reach 34.6 tCO2e.

More Than Compliance

Our Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in line with PPN 06/21 and the government’s reporting standards. But for us, it’s more than ticking a compliance box – it’s about embedding sustainability at the heart of how we work.

Doing What’s Right for Future

We’re serious about building a better future – for our industry, for our clients, and for our local communities. By taking real steps towards Net Zero, we’re proud to be part of the solution.
